
יוחנן פרידמן
יוחנן פרידמן הוא פרופסור אמריטוס ללימודי האסלאם באוניברסיטה העברית בירושׁלים, יו"ר החטיבה למדעי הרוח באקדמיה הלאומית הישׂראלית למדעים, עורך כתב העת Jerusalem Studies in Arabic and Islam ומרצה בתוכנית ללימודי המזרח התיכון והאסלאם במרכז האקדמי שלם.
פרופ' פרידמן הוא מגדולי המומחים בישראל ובעולם לתולדות האסלאם. הוא בעל תואר דוקטור בפילוסופיה מאוניברסיטת מקגיל, ובמהלך השנים מילא שורה של תפקידי מפתח באוניברסיטה העברית (בהם ראשׁ המכון ללימודי אסיה ואפריקה, ראשׁ המדרשׁה ללימודים מתקדמים במדעי הרוח, דיקן הפקולטה למדעי הרוח וראשׁ החוג לשׂפה וספרות ערבית) והיה מרצה באוניברסיטאות רבות. מחקריו, ובהם מחקרים על המחשׁבה המוסלמית הקלאסית ועל האסלאם בתת-יבשׁת הודו, זיכו אותו בפרסים רבים, ובהם פרס ישראל לשנת 2016 בתחום חקר המזרח הקרוב.
