Prof. Isaac Hasson

Prof. Yitzhak Hasson is a professor emeritus in the Faculty of Arabic Language and Literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a professor in the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at Shalem College.

A scholar of early Arabic history, Prof. Hasson’s specialties are the transition from the pre-Islamic period to the Islamic one; Umayyad rule; the role of Jerusalem in Islam, modern Shiism, and the contemporary Sunni-Shiite controversy. His is the author of two books and numerous articles and entries in the Encyclopedia of Islam and the Encyclopedia of the Koran.
