Dr. Andy German

Ph.D., Boston University

Dr. Andy German was born and raised in the United States and immigrated to Israel in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in 2011 from Boston University, where he wrote on self-consciousness in the thought of Plato and Hegel under the direction of Prof. Stanley Rosen. Since 2013, Dr. German has been an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where his teaching and research interests focus on classical Greek philosophy, German philosophy of the 19th century and 20th century, and the connections between them. He is the co-editor of Knowledge and Ignorance in Platonic Philosophy (Cambridge, 2018), and his research has been published in venues such as The Review of Metaphysics, Polis, and the British Journal of the History of Philosophy. Currently, Dr. German is writing a book on the relation between Nature and Freedom in Plato.
